L’EXPLOITATION DU SOUS-TITRAGE DES FILMS DANS LA DIDACTIQUE DES LANGUES

This article aims to explore the use and importance of subtitles in relation to language learning with the adoption of audiovisual methodology and its application in the teaching of French as a foreign language and other languages. Faced with the teaching of French as a foreign language, learners find it difficult to listen and understand, and in this circumstance we believe in exploiting subtitling in film and video bearing the characteristics of listening and writing, sound, listening comprehension, intonation and translation which can all serve as means to facilitate the learning of a foreign language. It is noted that this area of subtitling as a teaching technique has not been widely exploited or researched on . We cannot overestimate the importance of intra and inter linguistic subtitling which might give a more dynamic approach to learning a foreign language. In addition, subtitles represent a beneficial strategy for learners especially of a foreign language. Finally, the clarity and syntactic simplicity that make the subtitles discreet for the learners could be other quality criteria to motivate the learners because the films bearing the subtitles are representatives of the language and the culture in various fields.
