The paper did set out to examine the nexus between democratic foundations of African states in relation to their survival in the current international security framework/ cosmic. The democratic credentials of African states had been “woeful” and above all “fumbling”, as it has continually created a cesspool of poverty is dynastic, politically unconscious elites and citizens. Africa‟s democracy begets underdevelopment, poverty, hunger and despair, internecine wars, conflicts The interplay of these factors with several others had translated at the level of society in African states to leadership failure in governance which by all intent and purposes cannot elicit growth had set the continent on the wrong path of development, thus the relegation and the struggle for survival – politically, economically and socially by African states in the current international security frame work/ cosmic. African states are still grappling with the understanding of the principles, theory and ethos of democracy. To this end, Africa is currently suffering from democratic reversals especially, in the West Africa sub-region (ECOWAS). These reversals are not unconnected with the loss of fate by the people of Africa in democracy, thus, the interrogation of Africa‟s democratic foundation. The question then is - where did Africa get it wrong. The attempt at proffering answers to the questions lead the paper to several conclusions, thus, recommendations canvassed herein.
